What We're Working On

About Hula Huali

After a lot of thought, I have decided to teach hula. Not for financial reasons but because I want to help my culture to be represented accurately and respectfully. I believe hula, as well as other polynesian dances, is as rigorous as any dance form and requires disciple, dedication, and work to master. I require that from my students because I want them to master hula. They deserve a correct education and not just be party entertainment.

I started my hula studies as soon as I could stand from my grandmother and aunt, who learned it from their mothers and aunts, and so on back through my family. I teach the simple basics that I learned and have been passed down to me so my students will have a solid foundation of tradition. Huali is Hawaiian for polished, clean, and pure. That is the kind of student and dance I hope to have come out of my classes.

If you are ready to learn and enjoy hula, you are welcome at Hula Huali.
